Arts Coordinator (CLOSED)
ORGANIZATION PROFILE
ArtSea is a charitable organization that works to ignite interest and create connection through arts and cultural activities on the Saanich Peninsula. ArtSea programs and events are designed to be inclusive and aim to break down the barriers of age, culture, gender, ability, and beyond. ArtSea is fortunate to operate within the unceded territory of the Coast Salish People – within the traditional territory of the W̱SÁNEĆ Nation – Pauquachin, Tsartlip, Tsawout and Tseycum peoples.
The ArtSea team is supported by the valued contribution of volunteer committees that organize and promote programs and events, including:
- The ArtSea Gallery in Tulista Park
- The Salish Sea Lantern Festival and Week of Lanterns
- The ArtSea Studio Tour, Virtual Artist Tour, and the Online Interactive Directory
- The Sidney Seaside Sculpture Walk
- The Saanich Peninsula Arts and Culture Grant (SPACG) Program
- And many community and partnership programs, such as The Sidney Art Walk and the Community Christmas Tree
POSITION DESCRIPTION
ArtSea is seeking an arts-minded, people-person to work with us in serving our members and promoting arts and culture on the Peninsula. If you are interested in becoming a member of a dedicated team that works to provide exciting, engaging and unique arts programming, we would love to hear from you!
The Arts Coordinator role is a part-time position (20 hours a week) that reports to the Director of Programs and Communication. The Arts Coordinator will work along side a dedicated team of volunteers to assist with Arts Council operations. ArtSea is looking for a team-player that would like to work in a collaborative environment, and is willing to take both initiative and direction. This person must:
- Have excellent written and oral communications skills (internal and external) and demonstrate professional courtesy.
- Work independently and be able to problem-solve and prioritize tasks, often without immediate supervision.
- Be proficient with MS Word & Excel and have experience working with electronic media (website, newsletters, social media, etc.).
- Participate in team meetings and respond in a timely manner to email, phone and all other communications.
- ArtSea offers a flexible work schedule and the Arts Coordinator has the option to work remotely for a portion of their weekly hours.
RESPONSIBILITIES
ArtSea Volunteers
Volunteers are the driving force behind all ArtSea programs and events, and the reason that we are able to design and deliver exciting arts and cultural programs on the Saanich Peninsula. There are a wide variety of volunteer opportunities available, which are supported by the ArtSea Board of Directors and ArtSea Staff. The Arts Coordinator will be responsible for:
- Reviewing ArtSea volunteer applications and making initial contact with new volunteers to share information about ArtSea and determine volunteer interest and availability.
- Connecting volunteers with the appropriate staff member or volunteer committee lead.
ArtSea Memberships
ArtSea has an open membership available to artists, arts and cultural groups, and residents interested in the arts. Memberships are renewable each calendar year. The Arts Coordinator will be responsible for:
- Working with the ArtSea Team to monitor new and renewed ArtSea Memberships and ensuring the related CRM database is up-to-date.
- Ensuring each ArtSea Member has access to their ArtSea Member Profiles on the website and providing necessary support/assistance.
ArtSea Gallery
The ArtSea Gallery in Tulista Park is made available for rent by ArtSea Members for one-week artist-directed exhibitions, art classes, or workshops. The Arts Coordinator will work with the ArtSea Gallery Lead to provide support and assist with:
- Responding to gallery rental inquiries and maintaining an online gallery rental calendar and information package.
- Obtaining electronic posters and exhibition information and updating the website accordingly.
- Maintaining open communications with the Gallery Coordinator.
- Occasionally attending weekly rental transitions to direct outgoing exhibitions and assist incoming exhibitors (Thursday afternoon/early evening).
- Occasionally lifting and moving small furniture or transporting items to/from an external storage space.
Other Responsibilities
The Arts Coordinator will work with the Director and the ArtSea Team to complete various administrative tasks, including:
- Developing grant applications, reports, and media articles.
- Attending meetings with external partners and maintaining meeting notes to report back to the ArtSea Team.
- Occasionally working on location at the ArtSea Gallery Office to support ArtSea Staff, Volunteers, Gallery Renters, and Visitors.
