Winging-it

May 26 – June 1, 2023

Winging-It showcases paintings about silk moths by Lisa Lipsett.  In particular, the mesmerizing eye-spotted wings and free fly ribbon-like sky drawing of Cecropia. Their timeless wild beauty has fascinated the artist since she was a child. Their looping movement is a potent antidote to feeling pinned down. They lift the spirit.

Lisa Lipsett’s painting style is expressive and nature-based. Fascinated with the within of things, she paints the energetic signature of life. Excavated layers of unconventionally mixed and matched materials such as oil, dry pigment, gold leaf, graphite and cold wax maximize creative possibilities. Textured wings dusted with warm pink, vibrant tangerine, electric purples and cream rise up in bursts and flourishes in her images. Themes include freedom, harmony, simple beauty and belonging.

Though revered for their giant size and the beauty of their wings, silk moths are also challenged by habitat destruction, pesticides and over collecting. These night-flying pollinators are an important food source for many creatures, and can teach us much about the nature of self change. Lipsett’s images aim to spotlight their importance. Rental Agreement and Waiver of Liability:

Review the ArtSea Gallery Rental Package, which includes essential rental information, and follow the policies and procedures (the Main Contact will take full responsibility for communicating essential renter information and ensuring that all group participants follow ArtSea Policies and Procedures).Choice
Payment of the $400 Rental Fee, which includes a $100 non‐refundable deposit upon booking.Second Choice
Adhere to the ArtSea Gallery Presentation Standards
Attend the ArtSea Gallery Orientation Session at 6pm on Thursday evening (the day before the Friday Rental start date).
Treat the ArtSea Galley facility and equipment with care and respect, according to ArtSea standards. Renters will be responsible for the repair or replacement of damaged property or equipment. Note: Display equipment at the ArtSea Gallery that is available to Renters may change without notice.
Ensure the gallery is open daily from 10am-4pm, with a minimum of one attendant to welcome visitors.
Provide a system to manage sales of artwork (The ArtSea Gallery does not provide a Point of Sale system).
Follow specified Health and Safety protocols
Read and follow the Code of Conduct outlined in the ArtSea Gallery Rental Package
Hold a current ArtSea Membership
WAIVER OF LIABILITY: ArtSea constantly strives to maintain a safe work environment and to protect Renters, employees, volunteers and visitors from accidents at the ArtSea Gallery in Tulista Park. ArtSea, its Board of Directors, employees, or volunteers cannot be held liable for any loss, damage or injury that may occur. All health or safety issues must be reported immediately, in writing, to the ArtSea Team.
