Description | Dominique Drummond (Nikki), born and raised in Paris France, came to Canada to live in 1971. Nikki’s interest in the arts was nurtured through her exposure to galleries and museums as she grew up in Paris.
As soon as she arrived in Canada she began her quest to express her interest in art as a quilter. Through the early years she developed her quilting and needlepoint skills – quilting and embroidery to adults as a guild member. Nikki also took up paper crafts for a period of time.
Three years ago (2016) Nikki decided to take up jewelry making. She soon discovered that others wanted to purchase her creations. Her Japanese Braiding creations (Kumihimo) proved to be particularly popular, leading her to receiving recognition in several juried arts and crafts shows – and her work being included in The Gallery at Butchart Gardens on Vancouver Island. During this period, Nikki also created a wide range of earring designs. Nikki’s interest and talent in kumihimo also led her to presenting several workshops in the past couple of years.
Always looking to try new things in jewelry making techniques led Nikki to explore the creation of metallic jewelry using metal clay technique. She soon learned that she would have to acquire a kiln if she was going to be able to properly turn her clay creations into solid metal pieces of fine jewelry. She experimented with several different metal clays including silver, copper an bronze. This experimentation has lead her to focus on bronze metal clay as the foundation for her jewelry creations. Nikki is thrilled with this medium as a way to express her creativity.
