Description

Graduated from Alberta College of Art 1990, studied in New York in 1989.  Spent 7 months in the Banff Center of Art, doing self-directed residency in 1998.  Have had numerous solo and group shows in Calgary and Seoul, South Korea.

I was born in the city of 8 million people in South Korea.  Moved to Canada seeking artistic and cultural growth.  Traveled extensively, painting urban landscapes; markets, rooftops and architectural forms.

1992, moved to Turner Valley, south west of Calgary, found comfort in the “obvious certainty of nature”, walking in the foothills, wading in the river, sketching and taking photographs.  This visceral experience of the environment is evident in my work.

My passion is rooted in nature, an emotional response to the sight, smell and the sound of the landscape.  When I am in nature, all my senses become acute.

In this postmodern age, painting landscapes is almost a subversive act.  When I tell my peers that I am painting landscapes, they ask “is anyone painting landscapes these days?”.  Yes, I am.

Everlasting comfort I am feeling from nature, leads me to the knowledge of eventual destination.

Until then, enjoy the moment everyday!
