As a Victoria based artist, Renate works primarily in watercolour, pastels and oils. Her subject

matter have included landscapes, still life, figures, florals and animal life. Renate has pursued her

artistic interests through photography, sketching and painting.

With the exception of several excellent artist-led workshops, Renate is a self-taught artist. She

enjoys rendering a realistic or an impressionist style to her subjects using a variety of mediums.

While inspired by photographs and the natural world, she further develops her painting to

produce her own compositions. She favours a warm colour palette, applying layers of paint or

pastel to achieve the vibrant colours seen in her work.

Renate’s work takes inspiration from her travels, reflected light and simply the beauty in the

world around her. Renate has an Active membership in the Federation of Canadian Artists as

well as in her local area including the Victoria Federation Chapter, the Saanich Peninsula Arts &

Crafts Society and the ArtSea Community. Her work has appeared in both juried and non-juried

art shows and is held in collections in Canada.
