Description | When I traded in my journalist /teacher notepad for a sketchbook, I was thrilled to continue telling my stories in a new and exciting way. I entered the pastel medium through a circuitous route inspired by my Urban Sketching background. Born in Montreal, Quebec, I got my first taste of plein air sketching with sketcher/pastellist Sharon Fox Cranston. Then, I followed up with courses from Montreal Urban Sketcher Shari Blaukopf. My sketchbook is never far from me as I plan compositions or record a moment in time. It has taught me to embrace imperfections and to appreciate the developing story. It has also fuelled my experimentation with the expressive quality of pure pigment in soft pastel. Having moved to the Saanich Peninsula following my retirement, I am a lifelong learner interested in interpreting the West Coast mixing soft pastel with media such as ink, watercolour and gouache. Over the years, I have studied with pastelllsts Fran Hutton, Richard McKinley, Karen Margulis, Gail Sibley, and multi media artist John Lovett. I am a member of the Pastel Society of Canada, Saanich Peninsula Arts and Crafts Society, and ArtSea Community Arts Council. |
