I enjoy the challenge of discovering the natural beauty hidden within each new piece.
ArtSea member and frequent ArtSea show participant Philip Cottell is a Vancouver Island native born in Ladysmith. Phil has always been a tree hugger. After a career in forestry and wood products research, he took up woodturning. His subjects range from organic burl bowls and sculptural vessels to coloured, wall-hung plaques that take their cues from the wood grain and figure. Having been exposed to some of the world’s great turners at seminars and symposia he now collaborates with talented Coast Salish artist Chris Paul on turned and carved art pieces. Phil’s beautiful and useful objects use salvaged wood from local trees of maple, arbutus, dogwood, cedar and others. To see some of Phil’s exquisite work visit one of our Artisans Shows; you won’t be disappointed
