We invite you to join the ArtSea team as a volunteer on Saturday, August 22, 2026, and help create a joyful, welcoming evening for our community. Whether you enjoy greeting visitors, assisting with activities, supporting the lantern procession, helping behind the scenes, or lending a hand with set-up and clean-up, there are many ways to get involved. Salish Sea Lantern Festival Volunteer Opportunities – Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Beacon Park, 9801 Seaport Place, Sidney BC.

Volunteer Coordinator / Assistant to the Creative Director — Saturday, August 22, 2026, 4:00–9:30 pm

Volunteer Coordinator — Help coordinate volunteers during the evening festival.

Beacon Park Setup Crew (6 volunteers) – Saturday, August 22, 2026 — 4:00–6:00 pm

Beacon Park Setup Crew — Meet at the Bandshell and assist the site coordinators with setup, supplies, and other tasks as needed.

Evening Festival Volunteer Opportunities — Saturday, August 22, 2026, 4:45–9:30 pm (during event)

Paper Bag Light Crew — 6:00 pm and 9:30 pm — Place more than 50 paper bags containing sand and battery-operated tealights along the pedestrian fishing pier. Return at 9:30 pm to remove them. This role requires availability at both times.

Cup Lantern-Making Station Volunteer – 6:00 – 8:30pm – Assist participants with the cup lantern-making activity and help keep the station organized.

Visitor Support – Information Rover (6 people) — beginning at 5:45 pm – Walk through the festival area, welcome visitors, answer questions, provide directions, and hand out maps and itineraries. Volunteers will be stationed in Beacon Park, near the scuba diver installation, and in Eastview Park.

Lantern Procession Prep Crew — at 8:00 pm – Collect and distribute procession lanterns for volunteers to carry. This role includes retrieving large lanterns from installations and requires walking and moderate lifting.

Lantern Procession Crew — 6:30 – 9:30 pm – Help light procession lanterns, distribute them to the public before the procession, assist lantern carriers, and ensure the lanterns are returned at the end of the evening.

Festival Take-Down — Saturday, August 22, 2026, beginning at 9:30 pm

General Strike Crew — 9:30 pm – Meet at the Bandshell to turn off, collect, carry, and load lanterns, signage, tents, tables, supplies, and festival equipment.

Beacon Park Strike Crew — 9:30 pm – Collect and move lanterns and equipment from Beacon Park and the area extending toward Glass Beach.

Fishing Pier Strike Crew — 9:30 pm – Remove paper bag lights, lantern installations, signage, and other materials from the pedestrian fishing pier.

Waterfront and Eastview Park Strike Crew — 9:30 pm – Turn off and collect lanterns and equipment along the waterfront and in Eastview Park, and carry them to the Eastview Park loading area.

Additional Take-Down Opportunities – Sunday, August 23, 2026 at 10AM at the Iroquois Park location: 2289 Ocean Ave., Sidney BC

Storage Unloading Crew — 10:00 am – Help unload the truck and return lanterns and festival materials to storage.

Battery Removal Crew — 10:00 am – Remove batteries from lanterns before they are placed in storage.

The Board ensures that there are fair, consistent and equitable procedures pertaining to volunteer practices and performance. • Volunteers are individuals who, without expectation of payment, contribute time and service to the ArtSea Community Arts Council in the belief that their activity will be both beneficial to the community and satisfying to themselves. They are considered to be team members working alongside paid staff and other volunteers in fulfillment of the ArtSea mission. • It is essential to the proper operation of this relationship that ArtSea and each volunteer understands and respects the needs and abilities of the other.
