Description | Gail Hazlehurst is a clay sculptor whose work has been exhibited in art exhibits on Oahu, Maui and Vancouver Island, BC. I make abstract coral reef wall sculptures and clay collage vessel sculptures.
Gail’s inspiration comes from the beautiful images absorbed from a lifetime of living on tropical islands. Her sculptures reflect the ocean and all of its life forms. Sandy white beaches and the shells and corals cast onto them by the sea are all echoed in her work.
Gail Hazlehurst is a sculptor working in clay and has a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) degree from the University of Hawaii, audited a course in Exhibition Design and Gallery management by Tom Klobe, and has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Hawaii Pacific University. Her sculptures have been exhibited in juried art exhibits on Oahu, Maui and Vancouver Island.
Gail coordinated and taught clay hand-building classes for adults and children at schools and at the Contemporary Museum of Art on Oahu and at Greenglade Community Centre in Sidney, B.C. She also worked as one of the Gallery Directors for Hawaii Pacific University from 1987-1993.
Gail recently relocated to beautiful Vancouver Island, BC and is focusing on creating her ocean inspired sculptures and doing some part-time teaching at Greenglade Community Centre in Sidney, B.C. teaching adults and children clay handbuilding. |
